SOUTH PADRE ISLAND
About SPI and some Safety Tips
There are no life guarding services on South Padre Island, either in the city or county parks.
Safety Tips and Training
All of our Beach Attendants are trained and issued cell phones/ walkie-talkies and/or marine radios to enhance communication among staff and supervisors. This ability to quickly alert the team in cases of injury or lost children has given our company the ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations. In our ongoing training we review tasks and volunteer first responder steps to improve potentially life-threatening situations. Our ongoing safety training program is under continual monitoring for ways to improve.
Safety Tips for lost or missing persons
Often our team members are approached by the public who are concerned regarding a lost or missing person. Some tips for parents and bystanders….
-
First, stay calm and remember that almost 100% of missing persons are found unharmed.
-
Next, determine if assistance is needed or if an emergency exists.
-
Make it clear who you are and that you will assist them by calling the local authorities to make a report.
-
Obtain as much information as possible and be ready to answer questions from authorities such as time of disappearance, clothing, age and direction of last sighting;
-
Do not to leave the location of last sighting unless cleared by authorities to do so;
-
Keep someone who knows the missing person with you until the situation is resolved or the proper authorities arrive. More than likely, the city officials will ask the knowledgeable persons to ride in their vehicle up and down the beach in search of the missing person;
If the person is found, please alert The Beach Service Team Members and other volunteers who might be searching for the lost or missing person.
